Tantra is an exercise with the goal of the highest human achievement.

The secret of Tantra and its origins presumably go back to the Upanishads. The teachings of those ancient masters included techniques and rituals intended only for initiated ones. They were about meditation, visualizations and sexual practices for uniting the polarities and overcoming duality.

Sexuality

The experience of sexuality is an essential part of Tantra. The tantrics cultivated the love, the joie de vivre and the sensual lust. Especially because of the “Maithuna Ritual” (unification of Shiva + Shakti), Tantra has fallen into disrepute and is falsely identified (not only) in the west almost exclusively with sexual practices (Kamasutra).

The spiritual revolution of Tantra in Indian history recalls other rebellions against the restriction of the freedom of the individual and as a consequence “free love”, but the original tantra has never been associated with licentiousness or promiscuity.

Shakti

Tantrism is mostly, but not exclusively, associated with the worship of the female creative power, Shakti, which is the expression of God’s creative power. According to Hinduism, this primeval power slumbers in every human being as Kundalini energy in our lowest energy center, the root chakra.

The Tantra philosophy sees the body as the temple of the soul and representation of the whole universe, and as such it is longing to get to the union with the divine. It uses the body to reach there by guiding our energy from the lowest Chakra to the highest Chakra.

Consciousness

Tantra is a holistic way to realize the highest love. It is about the consciousness in which the person is in deepest peace and in the highest bliss at the same time, a state where all human longing is satisfied and all struggle and pain is over.

Shiva and Shakti as the two poles thus follow a spiritual and physical process (inside + outside): the conscious connection between spiritu-ality and sexuality. Just as the two (half man, half woman) are united in images, so the right half of each man is male and corresponds to Shiva, while the left half is female and corresponds to Shakti .
